Instructions for setting up the interactive installation Music for Strings & Silk (2022):

Equipment:

• At least one grand piano or two upright pianos
• One electric bass (drop D) with an amplifier
• One stand to electric bass
• Thin silk
• Heavy stones to hold down the sustain pedal

Room: A large room with accessible points in the walls and ceiling to attach the silk. For example, a room with a balcony, light rigging, beams, etc.

Open up the instruments and place long silk threads around the strings, then stretch them out to different points in the room.

Add heavy stones on the sustain pedals of the pianos. For bass, place the electric bass on the stand in the room and attach silk to the lowest string (Drop D). 

Give the bass a noisy and rumbling sound by adjusting the tone quality on the amplifier and bass.

Tonality: Use the note D and build its overtone series. Start with the instrument's lowest D. Add individual notes outside of the scale, any of your choice.
